What Is the Point of Magazines?
Magazines are undergoing an existential crisis. But we’re asking the wrong question: Not “How can magazines survive?”, but “Should they”?
Adam Sternbergh is the culture editor of the New York Times Magazine. He’s previously worked as an editor at New York Magazine, Toronto Life, Saturday Night and the National Post. His writing has appeared in various publications and been featured in Best American Political Writing 2009, Best Technology Writing 2009 and New York Stories: The Best Writing from Four Decades of New York Magazine. His first novel, “Shovel Ready,” will be published in January 2014 by Crown.

The Canadian Society of Magazine Editors (CSME) is looking for the best work of 2012 by Canadian magazine editors. The Editors’ Choice Awards, presented by CSME, honour and celebrate the high-quality work of editors within the Canadian magazine industry.
The submissions process for this year’s awards is now open to all CSME members. Enter your magazine by 4:30 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2013, to be considered by a judging panel of your peers.

Winners in each of the Small (under 50,000), Medium (50,000 to 149,999) and Large (150,000+) circulation categories, as well as the Trade and Custom magazine categories, each earn the right to use the Editors’ Choice Award logo on their cover for a year. There are also awards for Best Front of Book, the Jim Cormier Award for Display Writing, Best Website, Best Editorial Blog and, of course, the coveted Editor of the Year.
